Empathy

God has been bringing so many things to the surface in my life, empathy and the lack of it is a big one. Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. So many people believe they are empathic people but when put to the test they fail miserably. Empathy is shown through one’s actions,  not one’s words. A person can say they understand how you feel but when tested, do their words measure up to their actions? Here is what God expects. First we must understand that the motive for empathy is to imitate God and to obey His repeated commands to show empathy toward one another. The Bible says we should; Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. That’s where you see empathy. Are those around you moving in humility, kindness, patience, and compassion? Are you moving in it yourself? Empathy is a God-given grace that encourages us to take on the Christ-like compassion that is very hard to possess. Your greatest gift to yourself and to others would be to master empathy.
